The Zugspitz is the name of the highest peak in Germany. The peak itself s literally metres away from the border with Austria. On the Austrian side it is in Tyrol, to the north west from Innsbruck. In this area there are some nice little ski resorts under the name of the Zugspitze. The villages are Erhwald, Lermoos, Biberwier, Berwang, Bichelbach, Heiterwang. At the foot of the Zugspitz is the largest village Ehrwald.

Each of these little ski resorts has its good points, most giving descents from 1500 to 2000m down to 1000m, but up on the Zugspitz itself is the Zugspitzplatt. The peak is at 2962m, just beneath the peak between 2700m and 2400m is a ski area providing lighter fresher snow due to the high altitude. So the Zugspitzplatt is working in combination with Ehrwalderalm, Wetterstein, Grubigstein, Marienberg and Berwang to give a choice of small ski areas in the immediate vicinity.
