In the south or upper end of the Oetztal valley on the way to the Italian border , this renouned resort is south west from Innsbruck. The surrounding mountain peaks include Austria’s second highest the Wildspitze, at 3768m. It is renouned for mountain sports and an elegant social life. Sölden gives access to the Rettenbach and Tiefenbachferner glaciers in the upper reaches of Sölden’s surrounding mountains. Above the main village of Sölden is an upper village of Hochsölden at 2090m. Sölden regularly hosts the first World Cup races of the season; a giant slalom for both men and women is usually scheduled for late October on the Rettenbach glacier.

Skiers can take advantage of the Ski Tunnel at 3240m above sea level, that guarantees a quick and easy change from Rettenbach Glacier to Tiefenbach Glaciergletscher. Glacier skiing permits a much extended ski season, typically from September to May.
