Winter Activity in Kaprun-Kitzsteinhorn Gletscher

Kaprun has its own local ski areas of the Lechnerberg and the Maikogel, but many visitors just want the Kitzsteinhorn, especially when other areas are lacking in snow. It’s as if the whole world wants to be there. Warm sunny weather make it very attractive, but in bad weather with zero visibility, extreme cold and strong winds you may prefer elsewhere. Certainly when other areas only have soft slushy snow then it comes out tops! Light fluffy powder snow due to the high altitude and lower temperatures.

Kitzsteinhorn has 2 gondolas going up from the base station (900m) so queueing should not be an issue. To reach the highest point is with the Gipfelbahn cable car, this can require a short wait, taking you to (3029m) just beneath the peak. At the end of the day the final descent must be with one of the gondolas, there is no slope to ski down the cliffs!
