It is a village south east from Salzburg City just over the border from Salzburg state in Upper Austria. It is at the foot of the 2995m Dachstein massif, from the lake at the end of the road there are views looking up at the mountain and one of its glaciers. As a ski resort it is a key part of the Ski Associat>ion of Dachstein West.

Winter Activity in Gosau
Gosau has 3 base stations with lifts up to the ridge, reds coming back down, or going on to the slopes of Russbach and Annaberg. Russbach side has 1 big and 6 smaller base stations with lots of reds, some blues coming back down, Astauwinkel has 2 bottom stations Annaberg also has a bottom station, in the immediate vicinity of Annaberg are mostly reds. The main high points are the Zwieselalm, Hornspitz, Edtalm, Riedelkopf, Kopfberg, giving skiing from 1620m down to 780m.

In addition to the many reds there are some blues and a few blacks, and many man-made fun-pistes or concept pistes with bumps, jumps and speed tests. A fun park beneath Edtalm. Ski schools are available with beginners areas. Toboggan and cross country ski are also available.
Connections: Gosau, Russbach and Annaberg are linked by ski slopes and the lift system.
There are connections by road to other parts of the Ski Association of Dachstein West, including Dachstein Krippenstein, Feuerkogel in Ebensee, Postalm in Strobl, St Martin in the Tennengebirge and Lungotz. Multiday lift passes are valid for all parts of the Ski Association.
