East north east from the city of Innsbruck on the river Ziller, it is the first town in the climb up the valley, quite famous for winter sports with the name Zillertal. Historically renouned for its cannon ball and armour production, now for its wood mill. The narrow gauge Zillertal railway, dating from 1902, takes you from Jenbach to Mayrhofen up the Zillertal valley, has 3 stops in the Fügen area. The Christmas carol Silent Night Holy Night was made famous by a choir from here.
