According to the legend, the market town received the name Fieberbrunn (fever fountain) when a Tyrolean Countess was healed from fever after drinking the local water. Previously the town was named Pramau. On the road from Saalfelden to
St. Johan in Tyrol, north east from the city of Innsbruck, Fieberbrunn is a winter sports resort and venue of international snowboarding, freestyle and freeride events (like Lords of the Boards, Snowfever, the Churchjump), as well as a hiking and mountaineering resort in summer. Schloss Rosenegg is nearby. The bathing lake of the Lauchsee is important for summer tourism.
