In the northwest corner of Carinthia, on the south side of the Hohe Tauern National Park at the foot of the 3251m Mount Ankogel and near the southern end of the rail tunnel coming from Bad Gastein in Salzburg state, Mallnitz is small village but popular for skiers especially freeriders. Not only is it well placed for accessing the Ankogel resort, but also, with a short transfer, it is near the Molltal Glacier.
