To the east of Innsbruck in the Zillertal valley between the Ahorn and Penken mountains, Mayrhofen has quite a reputation for mountain sports especially winter sports. Each spring Mayerhofen hosts the “Snowbombing Music Festival”

Winter Activity in Mayrhofen
Winter sports happen on both mountains. Onthe south side of town is the Ahornbahn giving access to the easier slopes, descent from 2000m, on the north side is the Penkenbahn giving a wider area with more severre challenges, descent from 2420m.

Ski school and beginners areas are available, cross country ski and toboggan too. The fun park is on the Penken called Vans Penken. Penken is famous for a very steep black slope called Harakiri.
Connections: on the Penken side there are connections with lift and slope through to Finkenberg and Lanersbach. With skibus and train services there are connections to the other parts of Zillertal, up to Hintertux and down to Jenbach with connections to Gerlos also possible.
