Innsbruck – Nordkette Info

This ski resort is in the city Innsbruck, Austria’s 5th largest city. Of course the ski slopes are not in the city, but the bottom lift station is. Right next to the modern Congress centre, the Imperial Palace and the old town is the lift station of the funicular train to take you to the slopes. Nordkette is the mountain range, Nordkettenbahn is the lift system to take people up there, whether for the scenery or sport.

Winter Activity in Innsbruck – Nordkette

The first lift is the funicular train called the Hungerburgbahn from the Congress building, Innsbruck at 560m via the Alpine Zoo to Hungerburg at 860m, a 10 minute ride. The second is the Seegrubenbahn cable car from Hungerburg to Seegrube at 1905m, a 10 minute ride. Then the third and last is also cable car, Hafelekarbahn, from Seegrube to Hafelekar heights at 2256m, just a 5 minute ride. In addition there are 2 chair lifts in the vicinity of Seegrube. From the Hafelekar there are extreme routes for experienced skiers. The slopes give descents from 2256m down to 860m, but the top section from 2256m down is not to be taken lightly.

There is ski school and beginners area , the fun park is called the In-City Nitro Skylinepark near the Seegrube top station. There is the Cloud 9 Igloo bar near Seegrube.

Connections: public transport gives good access to the bottom station. The Alpine zoo and Hungerburg both have road access too. The Hafelekarbahn closes at 17:00 but the Hungerburgbahn and the Seegrubenbahn stay open later for non ski activities, such as eating and drinking, Austrian Apres-Ski.
